When tenants left us with a hoarders paradise and an extreme infestation of bed bugs, we were referred to Thermokill and don’t regret it. They were thorough, on time and professional throughout the process. They managed not only the extermination but also the preparedness. We received a final inspection report which will be required when we market the property. We would recommend them anytime.

I contracted Thermokill for bedbug heat treatment and spray for coackroach infestation in our condo. It was completed on 2 separate dates for maximum success. Hannah (office admin) was very professional and patient in explaining the procedure to me whenever I called during the inspection and before the actual appointments.

On each of the appointment dates, the team came prepared, had a walk through with me and confirmed what they would be doing during the treatment. They respectfully asked for permission to move things around and promised to be careful.

At the end of the treatment day(s), we came back home and everything was just as we expected. We only had to vacuum and reorganize our belongings.

I recommend them highly and with confidence that you won't be disappointed. The treatment includes a 3-4 month warranty during which to observe any signs of infestation and they include a post-treatment inspection after 2 weeks. I'll update this review then. So far it's been excellent!

Thermokill is definitely a company I would recommend to anyone dealing with bed bug issues. We went for heat treatment and were very happy with the easy prep they asked us to do. All other companies were asking for a lot of prep work which would’ve have taken weeks to complete. After two weeks, the owner of the company himself came to do an inspection to make sure everything was good. So far so good!

Why bed bug heat treatment is the best method in Canada?

Bed bug heat treatment is the most effective method to kill bed bugs and their eggs. Unlike pesticide or chemical treatment, heat treatment is able to penetrate all the areas of a room. It also kills eggs (which is something that chemical treatment cannot do).

Compared to other forms of treatment, heat treatment is a safe method. It doesn’t require much preparation. You will not need to dispose of any sheets, drapery, pillows, or furniture. Nor does heat treatment ruin fabric or material.

Why do pesticides and chemical treatments fail?

In fact, 95% of the customers who come to us have used chemical treatment in the past, and because it didn’t work to remove the eggs, they hired us to use heat treatment. Chemical treatments and pesticides are unable to reach into corners, edges, cracks, and floor openings.

As a result, the bed bug eggs continue to be a problem. Chemical treatment also requires multiple sessions, whereas heat treatment is a one-time activity. Chemical treatment can be particularly toxic to children, seniors, and pets.

Bed bugs and eggs die when air temperatures reach 140 °F (60 °C) called the “kill zone.” Forced convection technology is used in our process to produce sustained temperatures of up to 145 °F. It ensures that heat is pumped through the treatment area quickly and evenly, guaranteeing the death of ALL bed bugs and bed bug eggs in your home.

The peak temperature attained ensures that the heat permeates even harder to reach areas. This is as opposed to the application of pesticide treatments where bed bugs have been known to actually leave the area, only to return when it is safe – one of the reasons it often requires multiple applications and multiple visits to be deemed successful.

Since bed bugs are drawn to heat (it’s how they find food), they remain in the kill zone, guaranteeing complete annihilation with one application.

Bed bugs emerge from hiding and travel toward the heat source instead of trying to escape. The remaining bed bugs that are hiding will be killed immediately as soon as the temperature reaches the kill zone.

What is the Bed bug heat treatment process?

  1. Thorough property inspection.
  2. Preparation before the heat treatment starts.
  3. Set up the equipment (heaters and fans).
  4. Vacuum the infested areas to remove all bed bugs and eggs.
  5. Raise the temperature to 140 °F and maintain it for at least 6 hours.
  6. Monitoring of the temperature every 1/2 hour.
  7. Cool down the structures.
  8. Rearrange the rooms.
  9. Follow up in two weeks to make sure that the treatment was successful.
  10. Enjoy life with no bed bugs!

Will bed bug heat treatment damage your home?

Using heat-based treatment to kill bed bugs is a years-old, tried and tested technique in Canada and the most effective method for that purpose. In fact, it’s a lot safer, more effective, and promising than chemical-based pesticides.
Here are a few things about your home’s safety and heat treatment you should know with regard to bed bug heat treatment:

  • Your bed bug specialist (exterminator) will inform you about all the precautions you must take before the bed bug heat treatment takes place in your home
  • Here’s some good news: All of your house’s structures and belongings will remain safe. The bed bug heat treatment will not harm or melt anything in your house. However, bed bug specialists may ask you to remove some items from the home. If they deem some objects vulnerable, they’ll simply instruct you to move them out of the house or to a suitable spot within the house.
  • The only thing you must do before the bed bug heat treatment is to leave the house and take your pets along because the heat could likely harm you and your four-legged buddies.
  • A small exception: If you possess fish tanks, you can relocate them.
  • As long as you always seek this treatment from a certified bed bug company like Thermokill and don’t rely on a DIY heat hack to kill bugs, you and your home should remain safe and sound.
  • In case you have chemicals or flammable items inside your house or basement, they should be removed before heat treatment starts.
